Dorchester Children's Center Parent Education Program
The Nurturing Parenting Program has curriculum for diverse parenting groups: parents with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children, and adolescents. The program teaches infant and child development, nurturing parenting routines, effective non-violent discipline, and ways to build self-esteem and self-confidence in children. The ideal class size is 12 to 20 adults.
The Nurturing Skills for Teens program presents easy to follow parenting skills including developmental milestones, nurturing parenting routines; how to child-proof a home; and how to build self-esteem in children. Teens also learn about handling peer pressure; building their own self-esteem and issues facing teens and young parents. The ideal class size is 5 to 10 teens.
Participants in our Nurturing Parenting Program receive a Certificate at the end of the program, providing they have attended all of the sessions, participated in discussions and role-playing in a positive manner, completed the assignments, and demonstrated a comprehension of the course material. All of the participants must abide by the drug-free policy and if warranted, must participate concurrently in mental health treatment. The instructor tracks the attendance of each participant as well as their ability to participate in the discussions and class activities.
